7 Summer Outings in North GA for the Family

Are you looking for things to do in North Georgia this summer with the family? Look no further! Here are some great ideas for you and your family to spend some quality time together in the great outdoors!

Hit the Trails at Appalachian Trail Rides

Take your family horseback riding at Appalachian Trail Rides. They offer group and private trail rides and also offer a trail ride with a barbeque dinner. The property is gorgeous, and the horses are calm and friendly, which is perfect for any level rider. Children must be six years or older to ride. If your kids are under six, they also offer pony rides.

Hike the Appalachian Trail

Head to Noontootla Creek for a one-mile hike to Long Creek Falls. The Fannin County Welcome Center will give you a trail map for a self-guided hike. This trail is an excellent introduction to families and a beautiful one to take.

Brasstown Bald

Feel on top of the world at Brasstown Bald. It is the highest point in the state at 4,784 feet above sea level. When it is clear, from the observation deck, you can see four different states! Look out over Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee from heights you’ve never seen before.

Chase Some Waterfalls

There are over 100 waterfalls in the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains. Check out Falls Branch Falls with a double waterfall, Long Creek Falls, and Desoto Falls, where you will find five different waterfalls within three miles. Make sure to grab some breathtaking photos while you are there.

Go Apple Picking at Mercier Orchards

Be sure to visit Mercier Orchards, which has been a hit for 75 years with families. Hit the “U-Pick” area where you can pick as many apples as you can carry!

Morganton Point Recreation Area

Morganton Point Recreation Area offers many outdoor activities that are great for families of all sizes. There you can swim in secluded areas, go kayaking, try out stand-up paddle boarding, go boating, fishing, and so much more! Use the free picnic tables, grills, or fire pits while you are there to enjoy a meal in the great outdoors. You can fill an entire day at Morganton Point Recreation Area and never get bored!

Toccoa River Swinging Bridge

For the more adventurous families, hike the Toccoa River Swinging Bridge. This famous bridge is a bit secluded and out of the way, which is what makes it so special. Get to it by hiking Benton MacKaye Trail or paddle down the Toccoa River Canoe Trail. It is 270-feet long and the longest bridge east of the Mississippi River. You will love the breathtaking scenery you will see from the bridge.
